The Hanging Judge. Interview With Andrey Summers | July 7th, 2010
What do you get when you combine hungry trolls, the ghost of a racist judge and a little zombification? Comedy gold. Today we interview local playwright and director Andrey Summers about The Hanging Judge, which is showing at the Cultch Theatre from July 28 to August 1.
What is the Hanging Judge about?
Basically, at its core The Hanging Judge is about justice and discrimination. On the surface, though, it's about two British trolls in a cemetary wanting to eat a guy. There's opportunity there for a lot of black comedy, and we definitely go to some pretty ridiculous places, but all of that is juxtaposed by the very harsh presence of this hanged, racist judge.
The characters are all desperate, all striving for something, and there's a pervasive futility to a lot of what happens...but the show never lets you go too long without a laugh. And there are some big laughs to be had here.
